DMK breaks ties with PMK in Tamil Nadu

The Dravida Munnettra Kazhagam (DMK) today announced to part ways with the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK), its ally in Tamil Nadu alleging that PMK founder Dr. S Ramadoss was criticising each and every decision of the DMK government.

Chennai, June 17 : The Dravida Munnettra Kazhagam (DMK) today announced to part ways with the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK), its ally in Tamil Nadu alleging that PMK founder Dr. S Ramadoss was criticising each and every decision of the DMK government.

The PMK is giving outside support to the DMK-led government in Tamil Nadu and has 18 MLAs in the State.

The decision came after hectic backroom negotiations, between the leaders of the two parties, ahead of a meeting called by DMK Chief Minister Karunanidhi here this evening.

PMK has two ministers at the Centre, including Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss.

Karunanidhi told reporters that he would not press the UPA to remove the PMK from the alliance at the Centre.

"As far as we are concerned, we will not have any ties with the PMK," he said.
