J and K Assembly elections likely after September: Azad

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad said on Sunday that Assembly election will be held anytime after September.

New Delhi, June 1 : Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad said on Sunday that Assembly election will be held anytime after September.

The term of the 87-member Jammu and Kashmir Assembly ends in mid-November.

This is the only state in the country, which has a six-year tenure.

On being inquired about the possibility of continuing Congress' alliance with People's Democratic Party (PDP) in the polls, Azad said it was too early to say anything.

Despite differences between themselves, the Congress and the PDP have been running the government since 2002.

Based on the rotational arrangement, in the first three years, PDP's Mufti Mohammad Sayeed ruled the state as Chief Minister while Azad took charge of the office in 2005.
