Tibetan exiles decide their future actions ahead of Beijing Olympics

Five Non-Governmental organizations (NGO) here have joined hands for the Tibetan freedom movement and have decided to launch an all-out struggle against a second cultural revolution in Tibet after the Olympics.

Dharamsala, July 24 : Five Non-Governmental organizations (NGO) here have joined hands for the Tibetan freedom movement and have decided to launch an all-out struggle against a second cultural revolution in Tibet after the Olympics.

The five NGOs - the Tibetan Youth Congress, the Students For Free Tibet, the National Democratic Party of Tibet, the GU-CHU-SUM and the Tibetan Women Association - have initiated a movement titled 'Tibetan People's uprising Movement (TPUM)' through which they will carry out their freedom struggle.

B Tsering, President, Tibetan Women Association said that their forthcoming actions will define their strategic preparations made ahead of the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

"The TPUM will organise numerous actions in Dharamsala, at UN and International Olympic Committee offices in Geneva and New York, European Union in Brussels and Strasbourg during and after the Beijing Olympics," said Tsering

"Tibetan people's uprising believes in the "fierce urgency of now" to exploit various channels and mean to convey the demands and the aspirations of the Tibetan people voiced through the ongoing uprising the world over and raise the issue of Tibet at strategic international levels by organizing activities to put pressure on relevant international bodies," Tsering added.

China resumed fence-mending talks with envoys of Tibet's exiled spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, on July 1 in a move that could burnish its international image weeks before the Chinese capital hosts the Olympics.

It is the second closed-door meeting between the representatives of the Dalai Lama and the Chinese Government since rioting erupted in Tibet in March and heaped international pressure on China to deal with the Nobel laureate.
