Fishermen of Porbandar fear scanty rainfall

Fishermen in Saurashtra region are a worried lot, as they fear loss of income due to scanty rainfall in the region during the monsoons.

Porbandar (Gujarat), July 24 : Fishermen in Saurashtra region are a worried lot, as they fear loss of income due to scanty rainfall in the region during the monsoons.

The fishermen say that generally Saurashtra region starts receiving monsoon rain by 12 or 13 of July, but this year the rainfall is missing so far.

There is disquiet among the fishermen. They say that rain and seawater together is good for fish production. If rain is inadequate, the fishing community would have to face a lot of problems. In the last couple of years, rainfall was good, but this time it's not happening," said Sattar Ibrahim Barucha, a fisherman.

The fishermen fear that the loss of income would lead them to penury. They are doing what they can do best at the moment, praying.
