An all party delegation from Karnataka led by the Chief Minister, B.S. Yeddyurappa met the Union Home Minister, Shivraj Patil here today.
New Delhi, July 02 : An all party delegation from Karnataka led by the Chief Minister, B.S. Yeddyurappa met the Union Home Minister, Shivraj Patil here today.
The delegation sought classical language status for Kannada.
It also sought an amendment to Article 371 of the Constitution to provide for regional representation in employment and educational institutions.
Patil said that a Committee of Linguistic Experts, set up by the Ministry of Culture, is looking into the demand for categorization of languages as classical languages.
As regards amendment to Article 371 of the Constitution, Patil said that the matter would be looked into after it is sent with the recommendation of the State in the required form.
The delegation included some eminent writers and intellectuals.
