Asaram supporters attack mediamen in Ahmedabad

Supporters of spiritual Guru Asaram Bapu today allegedly attacked mediapersons and damaged their cameras to prevent them shooting near Gurus Ashram.

Ahmedabad, July 18 : Supporters of spiritual Guru Asaram Bapu today allegedly attacked mediapersons and damaged their cameras to prevent them shooting near Guru's Ashram.

Journalists belonging to some private channels suffered injuries during the attack. eanwhile, a group of civil society organisations is observing a shutdown here to protest against alleged 'shoddy investigations' into the deaths of the two children near the Asaram Bapu Ashram on July 6.

Both the children-- Dipesh Praful Vaghela, 10 and Abhishek Shantilal Vaghela, 11--were students of the Gurukul of Bapu Asaram in Sabarmati here.

Parents of the deceased children have alleged that the two children were murdered as part of an obscure ritual.

In Maninagar, the constituency of Chief Minister Narendra Modi, people tried to block the roads in the area.

Nirnaynagar was the most affected, as clashes broke down between police and people. Police had to resort to baton charge to disperse the mob and left behind many people as injured.

Gujarat Congress is supporting the Bandh call given reportedly by various social organizations and people in the textile city.

The city presented a scene of abandoned streets and closed shops with the business coming to an almost stand still here.

"We are demanding an investigation into the death of both the boys. 14 days have lapsed since they died but no justice has been delivered as yet. The police have sided with the Ashram, as it has destroyed all the evidences. We are demanding for a CBI probe into the matter so that the truth should come out in the open," said Rajesh Patel, a local resident."The Jan Sangharsh Samiti has called for the Bandh (shut down) and we are supporting them by closing all the commercial establishments and shops. We want results within one or two days," Patel said.
