Trinamool Congress today announced that it would renew its agitation against the Tata Motors car factory at Singur from Monday.
Hooghly (WB), July 11 : Trinamool Congress today announced that it would renew its agitation against the Tata Motor's car factory at Singur from Monday.
"There is no question of supporting the Tata Motors small car project. We will oppose it," said Becharam Manna, convenor of Trinamool Congress controlled Krishi Jami Raksha Committee.
"The Government will have to return the 400 acres of fertile land to the owners," Manna said.
Meanwhile, work at the Tata Motors project is going on smoothly. About 2000 workers were working in the project.
Tata Motors started to build its factory in Singur in January 2007 to make the world's cheapest car.
The much awaited one-lakh rupees car, Nano, was unveiled by Tata Motors chairman Ratan Tata in New Delhi, which is likely to hit roads by October this year. But the project, which has become a test case for the ruling Communists party in West Bengal, has been in controversy with some farmers declaring that the government took their land against their will.
There have been regular protests in West Bengal this year over the acquisition of agriculture land for industry.
