The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today urged the UPA Government to honour former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee with the Bharat Ratna Award this year for his outstanding contribution to the nation.

New Delhi, Jan. 9 :The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today urged the UPA Government to honour former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee with the Bharat Ratna Award this year for his outstanding contribution to the nation.

Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha and senior BJP leader L K Advani has reportedly written a letter to Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh in this regard.

In his letter, Advani said that Vajpayee had strengthened India's democracy both in and out of power. Recalling the services of the veteran statesman, he said: "Vajpayee is the longest living parliamentarian of the country."
