EC to issue notification for Tripura assembly polls

The Election Commission (EC) will today issue formal notification for a single-phase Assembly poll in Tripura to be held on February 23.

Agartala, Jan 30 : The Election Commission (EC) will today issue formal notification for a single-phase Assembly poll in Tripura to be held on February 23.

The filing of nomination papers will close on February 6 and scrutiny of nominations will take place on February 7. The last date for withdrawal of candidature is February 9.

The counting of votes will take place on March 7.

Meanwhile, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) N Gopalaswami and Election Commissioners S Y Qureshi and Navin Chawla have reviewed the poll preparations.

They asked the appointed observers to ensure free and fair elections in the state.

Fifty-two general observers and eight expenditure observers have been allotted and will stay there till the end of the Assembly polls.

The observers have specially been asked to tour their respective constituencies and build up confidence among weaker sections.

The current term of the Tripura Assembly ends on March 19.
