Shutdown in Bihar

Normal life came to a standstill in Bihar due to a state-wide shutdown called by the opposition in protest against the death of three demonstrators in police firing at Kahalgaon in Bhagalpur District.

Patna, Jan 25 : Normal life came to a standstill in Bihar due to a state-wide shutdown called by the opposition in protest against the death of three demonstrators in police firing at Kahalgaon in Bhagalpur District.

Activists of RJD, Congress, CPI, CPI-M and NCP blocked roads at Dakbungalow circle, I T Circle, Sabji Bag and Gandhi Maidan in Patna in the morning.

Traffic on Bailey Road, Ashok Rajpath, Exhibition Road and Nallah Road was partially affected as bandh-supporters put up blockades at different places.

Bandh supporters also shut down markets forcefully.

Bus services also got affected as Private operators suspended bus services to and from Patna, but government buses were plying under security.

Banks and other financial institutions functioned normally.

All police stations in the state have been put on high alert and additional policemen have been deployed at all the key places.

Railway Protection Force (RPF) is monitoring the railway tracks and other establishments of the railways.

Additional arrangements have also been made for smooth functioning of train services and traffic on roads.

Public and private schools remained closed today.

Earlier, the Bihar Government ordered a judicial inquiry into police firing on January 17-18 on residents demanding adequate power supply from National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) at Kahalgaon.

The State has been passing through unprecedented power-crisis for the last few months.
