Carlsberg and Heineken Consortium to Acquire Scottish & Newcastle Plc

It has been announced today that the Board of Directors of Scottish & Newcastle Plc have agreed to recommend the acceptance of the offer by the consortium comprising of Carlsberg and Heineken to acquire Scottish & Newcastle Plc for GBP 7.8 billion.

"While The UB Group has had an excellent and productive relationship with Scottish & Newcastle Plc during the period of the association, we welcome the fact that Heineken will be associated and be a potential shareholder of United Breweries Limited on terms that are yet to be discussed and agreed", according to Dr. Vijay Mallya, Chairman, The UB Group.

"Heineken is one of the world's leading beer brands and there is great potential for combining the strengths of the two companies to participate in the exciting future of the Indian beer market", he added.
