Rajkot, Jan 24 : A two-and-a-half-year-old cub was rescued from a Madhavpura village's well of Rajkot district of Gujarat.
The cub was taken out of the well with help of a rope. The entire operation was completed in one and a half hours.
The forest authorities feel that immediate measures are needed to cover the wells and prevent such mishaps in future.
"They (nocturnal animals) roam around for long distances in the night for prey. These animals are very likely to fall in the unsafe wells in the village. It is important to make these wells safe by covering them otherwise such incidents will keep taking place," said Jayant Solanki, Assistant Conservator, Dhari Range.
The villagers of Madhavpura in the Dhari range have also expressed concern over such incidents, which they said happen frequently in the area.
"It will be good if this is done (if these wells are covered) In every 2-3 months, such incidents keep taking place," said Jignesh, a resident of Madhavpura village.
