Northern region continues to reel under cold wave

North India continues to shiver under intense cold wave conditions on Thursday.

Adampur (Punjab)/Shimla, Jan 24 : North India continues to shiver under intense cold wave conditions on Thursday.

At Adampur in Punjab's Jalandhar District the temperature plummeted to around minus 3.6 degree Celsius, affecting day-to-day activities.

"Work is getting delayed and the supply of milk to homes has been affected. Due to fog we are not able to get the fodder for cows on time," said Raminder Singh, a milkman.

People huddled around bonfires to keep themselves warm.

Some residents said this season's cold wave has revoked the memories of cold in 1972.

"It is very cold. Due to the cold my hands and feet are frozen. Aged people are facing a lot of difficulties because of the cold. Last time a cold wave like this happened was in 1972," said Hari Vippen Bedi, a resident.

In Shimla, icy winds forced people to stay indoors as the hill station recorded a temperature of minus 4.4-degree Celsius.

"It has been quite cold for the last two days. It is so cold that water in the pipes has frozen. We are not able to go out because the wind is very cold. One can't say how long this cold wave is going to last. The meteorological department has announced that it will be cold for few more days," said Lekhraj, a resident.
