An art exhibition in Chandigarh is providing young upcoming artists with a platform for launch into a lucrative world of art.

Chandigarh, Jan 24 : An art exhibition in Chandigarh is providing young upcoming artists with a platform for launch into a lucrative world of art.

A painting exhibition was held at Chandigarh Lalit Kala Akademi Art Gallery recently to promote art as a career option.

Besides a separate section showcasing works of little artists, ninety paintings were displayed.

Of late, a number of artists seeking art as a career have witnessed a spectacular growth with the availability of excellent coaching facilities.

Bharti Sharma, who along with her husband runs a coaching academy, is all praise for the creative genius of some of her students.

"Many students come here for the hobby classes. After a duration of six months to one year, they came out with something which is very different and that we put here in the form of exhibition," said Bharti, faculty member of the Bama Academy of Fine Art.

The training is provided for a minimum of six months to the aspiring artists willing to learn the tricks of the trade.

People from a wide cross-section of society take part in these classes. They include corporate executives, school children and handicapped persons.

According to trainees, such exhibitions are quite useful in giving a thrust to their careers.

"The name of my painting is 'Village Impression' and it's totally a different painting with contrasting colours. The advantage of such exhibition is that I'm getting a good exposure. So its an ideal platform for retailing my paintings as well," said Arjun Gupta, an artist.

The job opportunities for creative young artists have been growing. Apart from careers in fields like creative advertising, demand for such trained talent exists in the growing glamour world of fashion - where designs have to be created on fabrics.
