Travel time to and from Delhis airport, as well as from Delhi to Gurgaon will cut down shortly, as Union Shipping, Road Transport and Highways Minister T R Baalu, Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit inaugurated the last flyovers at Rao Tula Ram Marg (RTR)-Palam Mahipalpur of NH-8 on Wednesday.
New Delhi, Jan 23 : Travel time to and from Delhi's airport, as well as from Delhi to Gurgaon will cut down shortly, as Union Shipping, Road Transport and Highways Minister T R Baalu, Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit inaugurated the last flyovers at Rao Tula Ram Marg (RTR)-Palam Mahipalpur of NH-8 on Wednesday.
With the opening of RTR-Palam flyover, it will now take approximately 20 to 25 minutes only to cover this stretch. The opening of entire project for public use will provide immense relief to commuters travelling between Delhi and Gurgaon.
The service roads will cater to the local traffic without interfering with the long distance main traffic. This would further provide comfort to the commuters, both passenger and commercial vehicles, on this important route to Jaipur and Mumbai.
For the safety of pedestrians, the project comprises of four pedestrian subways, one completed steel foot over bridge, one under construction steel foot over bridge and six proposed steel foot over bridges. These foot over bridges would be located DSOI Gate, Dhaula Kuan in Delhi and rest in Haryana at various places, one between Udyog Vihar and IFFCO Chowk and another at Hero Honda Chowk while two others at Khandsa Village and Narsinghpur Village respectively.
The project was initially scheduled for completion in July 2005.
With the opening of RTR-Palam flyover, the 27.70 km. Delhi-Gurgaon access-controlled highway project has been completed at a total cost of Rs. 710 crore.
This is one of the busiest corridors carrying traffic over 1,50,000 vehicles per day and is the only link to the Indira Gandhi International and domestic airport of Delhi.
