At least 36 passengers, including 12 women and four children, were killed and 40 were injured when a bus in which the victims were travelling fell into a deep gorge here last night.

Nasik, Jan 21 : At least 36 passengers, including 12 women and four children, were killed and 40 were injured when a bus in which the victims were travelling fell into a deep gorge here last night.

The bus, which was coming from the Saptashringi shrine in the district, fell into a deep gorge at Nandurigaon, about 70 km from Nasik.

According to the police, the accident took place at around 10:30 p.m. when the driver lost control of the bus.

The private bus was carrying about 76 persons, all from Mumbai and its suburbs.

The injured are undergoing treatment in civil hospitals at Kalwan, Vani and Nasik.

Rescue operation was still on till reports came in.
