Defence exhibition proves a major draw at Guwahati

Thousands of people thronged the two-day defence exhibition which showcased technological advancement made in the field of military hardware by the country.

Guwahati, Jan.15 : Thousands of people thronged the two-day defence exhibition which showcased technological advancement made in the field of military hardware by the country.

The exhibition aimed at instilling patriotic fervour among the youth and motivating them to join army. On view were the exclusive Night Vision gadgets, the Bofors guns, anti-aircraft guns and assorted weaponry.

"The people from the north east are both fearless and hard. There have been number of gallantry award winners from the north east. There are people from North East who have given their lives for this country and I feel this exhibition will motivate more and more people to join army," said Colonel M. Gupta, co-coordinator of Defence Exhibition.

It may be recalled during Kargil war Captain Jintu Gogoi from Assam was one of the martyrs. Likewise, there have been many hailing from the north-east who have sacrificed their lives while defending nation's sovereignty.

The exhibition fascinated visitors of all age groups who were all praise for the exhibited works.

"Young generation must know about the discipline of the army and things for the defence of the army and they can join the army. From these exhibitions they learnt a lot many things," said Iftikar Ahmed, a visitor at the defence exhibition.

Many youngsters were interested in enrolling in the Indian army.

"It's nice. I enjoyed a lot. I have learnt a lot many things from the exhibition. It's very nice to be here. I have seen how the guns work. It's nice. I would like to join the army, said Mehar Nigah, another visitor at the defence exhibition.
