Gurjars demanding scheduled tribe status in Rajasthan will hold a mahapanchayat in Bayana despite BJP governments offer to place them under the de-notified category.
Jaipur, Jan 13 : Gurjars demanding scheduled tribe status in Rajasthan will hold a mahapanchayat in Bayana despite BJP government's offer to place them under the de-notified category.
"Gurjars in Rajasthan only want ST status and nothing short of it. We are fighting for it and will get it", Attar Singh, one of the members of Gurjar Aarakshan Sangharsha Samiti told a news agency after the meeting , at the BJP office in Jaipur.
He further added, "The Government said even if it sent a recommendation to the Centre for granting ST status to Gurjars it would need a two-thirds majority to get the proposal cleared. So, it is thinking to give Gurjars a special package of 4-6 per cent reservation in the de-notified category."
He concluded that we have dismissed the offer as it was just another 'lollypop' designed to stop us from holding the mahapanchayat on Sunday in Bayana and Mahapadhav in Jaipur on January 21.
