Deer gone astray in Ludhiana factory rescued

Forest officials have rescued a Sambar Deer which had accidentally entered into the premises of a metal fabricating factory in Ludhiana during early hours on Saturday.

Ludhiana, Jan 13 : Forest officials have rescued a Sambar Deer which had accidentally entered into the premises of a metal fabricating factory in Ludhiana during early hours on Saturday.

Sambar is a large deer of southern Asia, having three-tined antlers and a reddish-brown coat.

After entering into the factory premises, the deer was unable to find its way out, before the factory workers spotted him and called the forest officials.

It took forest officials two hours to catch the animal, which ran helter-skelter sensing danger, and in the process received minor injuries.

Ludhiana Divisional Forest Officer Harbhajan Singh said that the animal would be given the first-aid for injures incurred, before being released in the forest. "We will also take him to a veterinary hospital to check if it has received major injuries. Thereafter we will release him in the forest," said Singh.

Massive deforestation and scarce greenery in the city have become a nightmare for the wildlife. There have been reports of frequent deaths of peacocks and deer.
