New Delhi, Feb 7 : The Union Cabinet today gave its approval for the continuation of implementation of national projects under Accelerated Irrigation Benefits Programmes (AIBP).
The Cabinet gave approval for the financial assistance to ongoing spilled over projects of the Tenth five year plan and new projects taken up in Eleventh five year plan under AIBP with a total outlay of Rs. 437 billion.
Cabinet also gave its approval to the proposal for implementation of National projects with Central assistance of 90 per cent of the cost of the project as grant for International project, Inter State project and Intra State project.
International projects where a treaty requires usage of water in India or where planning and early completion of the project is necessary in the interest of the country.
Inter-State projects, which are dragging on due to non-resolution of inter-State issues relating to sharing of costs, rehabilitation, aspects of power production including river inter linking projects.
Intra-State projects with additional potential of more than 2,00,000 hectares and with no dispute regarding sharing of water and where hydrology is established.
This will help to complete ongoing and irrigation projects under AIBP to augment irrigation facilities in the country. This will also help in a big way to achieve targeted irrigation potential under Bharat Nirman.
This will help in utilizing share of water in rivers governed by the international Treaties apart from creation of additional irrigation potential in the country.
