At least eight people were reported to be killed and several others were injured after a hotel building collapsed in Kalupur area of Ahmedabad on Sunday.

Kalupur (Gujarat), Feb 3 : At least eight people were reported to be killed and several others were injured after a hotel building collapsed in Kalupur area of Ahmedabad on Sunday.

Around 32 out of the 50 trapped inside the building that came crashing down during the early hours of Sunday have been rescued.

"I do not know about their whereabouts even now," said Sunil, a friend of the people staying in the hotel.

According to officials, construction work was taking place in a building next to the hotel, which caused the collapse.

"The rescue work is in progress. Fire brigades, the police and cranes have reached the spot," said I P Gautam, Commissioner, Ahmedabad, Municipalorporation.

The injured persons have been admitted in various hospitals.

First Investigation Report (FIR) has been lodged against the hotel authorities as well as the construction company for negligence.

Meanwhile, the Gujarat Government has announced a financial assistance of one-lakh rupees to the kin of those killed in the collapse.
