Raj Thackeray supporters, SP workers clash in Mumbai

Activists of Raj Thackerays Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) clashed with Samajwadi Party supporters near the venue of a United National Progressive Alliance (UNPA) rally here today.

Mumbai, Feb 3 : Activists of Raj Thackeray's Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) clashed with Samajwadi Party supporters near the venue of a United National Progressive Alliance (UNPA) rally here today.

Activists of both political parties indulged in stone pelting in Dadar before the start of the rally. Few vehicles were also damaged in the incident.

Following the clash, the security at the venue in Central Mumbai was stepped up, police said.

The rally at Shivaji Park was to be addressed by top UNPA leaders, including Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav.

Earlier today, actress and Samajwadi Party MP Jaya Bachchan had retaliated to MNS President Raj Thackeray's statement against her husband and Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan.

On Saturday, Raj Thackeray criticised Bachchan of favouring Uttar Pradesh over Maharashtra. He had also outraged people from Bihar by calling the Chhat festival a 'drama'.
