Snowfall blocks Srinagar-Jammu highway

Traffic on Srinagar-Jammu national highway was suspended on Sunday following landslides at Panthal and heavy snowfall at Patnitop and Jawahar tunnel, officials said.

Srinagar, Feb 3 : Traffic on Srinagar-Jammu national highway was suspended on Sunday following landslides at Panthal and heavy snowfall at Patnitop and Jawahar tunnel, officials said.

The highway is the only road link between the Kashmir Valley and the rest of the country.

Batote, Banihal and Qazigund on the highway recorded 11.8 mm, 9.6 mm and 6.2 mm of snowfall respectively, a Met official said.

Meanwhile, the Valley received fresh snowfall on Saturday night following intense cold wave conditions.

Kupwara was the coldest place in the State with minimum temperature plummeting to minus 6.8 degrees Celsius.

Pahalgam in south Kashmir recorded minimum temperature of minus four degrees Celsius, while in Srinagar the minimum temperature dipped to minus 0.6 degrees Celsius.
