President Patil to visit Hampi today

President Pratibha Patil will on Sunday visit the archaeological monuments in Hampi, the seat of ancient Vijayanagar Kingdom.

Bangalore, Feb 3 : President Pratibha Patil will on Sunday visit the archaeological monuments in Hampi, the seat of ancient Vijayanagar Kingdom.

Hampi is also called "The City of Ruins".

Patil, who is on a three-day visit to Karnataka, flagged off the state's first luxury train, "Golden Chariot" in Bangalore on Saturday.

Underscoring the need to encourage domestic tourism and enhance the flow of tourists to India, she had said that the "Golden Chariot" would open up many parts of the State - the famous places as also the smaller places to tourists.

Before leaving for Delhi, the President will also hold a meeting with Karnataka Governor Rameshwar Thakur, three of his advisors, Chief Secretary P B Mahishi and Principal Secretaries of various departments.
