Inter-state bus services in Manipur have been suspended after service operators went on an indefinite strike on Monday in protest against the extortion demands of militants.
Imphal, Feb 25 : Inter-state bus services in Manipur have been suspended after service operators went on an indefinite strike on Monday in protest against the extortion demands of militants.
Bus service providers alleged that they had also received threats of being attacked by some militant groups on Saturday.
The disruption in services began with ticket booking counters being closed here from Sunday.
Taking advantage of the crises taxis have hiked their fares.
"We are facing a lot of problems because of this bus strike, and these people (militant groups) are doing whatever they feel like because of the failure of the State Government," claimed I. Raghumani Singh, a passenger.
This is not the first time that bus services have been disrupted in Manipur. Earlier also, various services had been suspended owing to the extortion demands.
Interstate bus service authorities were not available for comment.
