Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil on Friday visited avalanche-hit areas of Jammu and Kashmir.

Srinagar, Feb 22 : Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil on Friday visited avalanche-hit areas of Jammu and Kashmir.

At least 30 people were reported to have killed due to avalanches caused by continuous heavy snowfall.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad and Union Water Resources Minister Saif-ud-din Soz received Sonia and Patil at the Udhampur airbase this morning.

Sonia and Patil did aerial survey of Doda and Kishtwar districts in Jammu region.

Sonia first visited Azad's hometown Bhaderwah where she met around 200 people.

She then visited Marwa in adjoining Kishtwar district.

Sonia and Patil had to call off further survey due to the bad weather

Their visit to avalanche-hit areas of Anantanag and Kulgam districts was cancelled.
