Dhanbad, Feb.21 : A mobile school in Dhanbad, Jharkhand, is spreading education among underprivileged children in the absence of proper school buildings.
The absence of school buildings is due to the dangers posed to them by pit fires of closed or unused coal mines.
The mobile school has been introduced under the Centre's Sarva Shiksha Abhiyaan (Education for All) scheme. Ramanand Paswan, a teacher by profession, has been appointed to visit various localities in Jharia, Jairam Pur and Bagdigi to ensure that basic education is provided to kids.
"Dhanbad city is a fire-prone area. It is not possible for a school to be set up here. The population is also scattered. This Mobile School concept has been developed to provide education in the area," said Ratan Mahavar, District Superintendent of Education, Dhanbad.
Ramanand leaves his home early in the morning for his destination of the day. Different localities are covered on different days. He travels by bicycle that carries a board at the front reading: Mobile School.
The scheme is currently on trial, but Ramanand's popularity has soared. Children look forward to his visits. About 50 children attend every class session.
Education is provided to the kids in the open.
Students are also advised on moral values through this mobile school. Students say they would like to see school building being set up soon for them. By Ajay Sinha
