Filing of nomination papers for the single-phase Assembly poll in Meghalaya on March 3, ends today.

Shillong, Feb 15 : Filing of nomination papers for the single-phase Assembly poll in Meghalaya on March 3, ends today.

In all, 322 nomination papers have been filed so far. Scrutiny of these papers will be held on February 16 and the last date for withdrawal is February 18.

Most of the candidates in the state have filed their nominations for the 60 member Assembly. Fifty-five of these 60 seats are reserved for the Scheduled Tribes.As per the revised electoral roll, over 12 lakh 30 thousand voters are eligible to exercise their franchise. arlier, the State Chief Electoral officer, P Naik, confirmed the registeration of a few cases of violation of the code of conduct. These have been referred to the Election Commission of India. Out of 1582 polling stations in the state, 635 have been declared hyper sensitive and 194 sensitive. Forty companies of central paramilitary forces will be deployed for the poll.The counting of votes will take place on March 7. The current term of the Meghalaya Assembly ends on March 10.
