Mumbai Police arrest Raj Thackeray, Abu Azmi

Mumbai Police on Wednesday arrested Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray and Samajwadi Party Lok Sabha Member Abu Azmi for promoting enmity between groups.

Mumbai, Feb 13 : Mumbai Police on Wednesday arrested Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray and Samajwadi Party Lok Sabha Member Abu Azmi for "promoting" enmity between groups.

According to sources, the police is heading towards the Vickroli Court where Thackeray will be produced.

Earlier in the day, thousands of MNS supporters were arrested in Maharashtra for indulging in violence.

Maharashtra Home Minister R R Patil had cut short his visit to Latur following reports of Thackeray's arrest.

Mumbai Police had lodged a First Information Report (FIR) against Thackeray on Monday at the Vikroli Police Station. Raj was booked under the non-bailable Section 153A, B and Section 117 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for inciting violence in the city.
