Doda (Jammu and Kashmir), Apr 8 : Security forces in Kashmir gunned down Hizbul Mujahideen divisional commander Gulam Hassan Wani in Doda district today.
The slain terrorist is described as the longest serving in Jammu and Kashmir.
He had also served as the security guard of the Hizbul supremo Sayeed Salahuddin in PoK.
"Wani was the oldest surviving terrorist in Jammu and Kashmir and was trained in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) terrorist camps and Khost in Afghanistan," sources said.
"The troops and the police had launched a cordon and search operation in Batyas area in remote Gandoh tehsil of Doda district late Monday night to trap the terrorist," official sources said.
The police has recovered an AK 47 rifle, pistol, satellite phone, grenades and wireless set.
At least eleven top Hizbul terrorists have been killed in Jammu and Kashmir since January this year.
