Crafts fair in upper Assam

The upper Assam which had seen many violent incidents is now a peaceful area.

Sivasagar (Assam), April 8 : The upper Assam which had seen many violent incidents is now a peaceful area.

People can today enjoy cultural functions organized at public places here.

Recently, a Craft Mela (fair) was organized in the Sibasagar.

Phoenix '08, a Techno-cultural festival to showcase and discover the talents and skills of the northeastern students was held in the Jorhat Engineering College for the first time here.

Orgnaised by the United Rural development Organization, an NGO from Karbianglong, the exhibition-cum-sales of various handmade products was sponsored by Office of the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Central Ministry of Textiles.

In the exhibition, 135 participants took part.

The main attraction, however, was the products of waste Tea Bush, like showpieces, dinning table set, side table, side stand, and statues.

Some of the main events included Module Bridge making Competition, rock fest, rock show, fashion show, quiz, debate etc. These events demonstrated the abundance of talent in the region and the people's urge to move ahead in life.

Upper Assam includes Jorhart, North Lakhimpur (Mohanbari), Golaghat, Karbi Anglong, Tejpur and other areas. y Vaschipem Kamondong
