West Bengal police on Saturday arrested two anti-land acquisition forum supporters for allegedly carrying pistols while traveling through the CPI-M stronghold of Khejuri that is near Nandigram.
Nandigram, April 5 : West Bengal police on Saturday arrested two anti-land acquisition forum supporters for allegedly carrying pistols while traveling through the CPI-M stronghold of Khejuri that is near Nandigram.
Angry women members of Bhoomi Ucched Pratirodh Committee (BUPC) blockaded Khejuri police station to protest against the arrest of their members.
"The women blockaded the police station shortly after the arrests," said Superintendent of Police S Panda.
District's prominent Trinamul Congress leader and Egra MLA Sisir Adhikari alleged that the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) cadres had planted the arms in their pockets.
"The arrests were part of a plan to harrass villagers going from Nandigram to Khejuri," Adhikari said.
Incidentally, four BUPC supporters were also arrested last night for their alleged involvement in arson at Nandigram last year.
