Imphal, Apr 5 : Inhabitants of Heirok village in Manipur's Thoubal District have declared war against militant groups after some innocent villagers were killed by the latter.
In a memorandum submitted to the State Government, residents of the village demanded measures against militant groups in the state. They also requested Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh to arm the villagers so that they canrotect themselves.
Participating in an emergency meeting under the aegis of the Joint Action Committee (JAC), the villagers decided not to heed any of the militants' demands."We will not allow any militant outfits to operate and enter our village. The present trend of killing innocent people is an act of terrorism. We reaffirmnd make our stand clear again," said Kh. Basanat Singh, Vice President, JAC, Heirok village.
They also decided to prevent militants from tampering with the Public Distribution System (PDS).Heirok village has been the epicenter of anti-militancy protests for the last one week.
"We are trying to reach out to the masses and share with them our idea of development and peaceful existence at this crucial stage. Such activities shatter our positive hopes and make us despondent," said L. Mandir, General Secretary, JAC, Heirok village.
Last week, three people, including two girls, were killed in indiscriminate firing by the banned People's Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK).
