West Bengal police arrest three suspects in Siliguri blast

The West Bengal police on Friday arrested three persons suspected to be involved in the bomb blast that took place in Siliguri, killing three people.

Siliguri, April 4 : The West Bengal police on Friday arrested three persons suspected to be involved in the bomb blast that took place in Siliguri, killing three people.

According to the police several Bhutanese and Nepali rebel groups could have triggered blast on Thursday.

"We have arrested three people in connection with the blast and have recovered several sim cards operated in India and Nepal. The arrested people could be Maoists but presently we cannot say anything as we are still investigating," said R.J.S. Nalwa, Inspector General of Police of North Bengal.

A woman and two men were among those killed when a powerful bomb accidentally went off inside a house in West Bengal's Siliguri district.

The rebel groups that are suspected of being involved in the blast include Madhesi rebel group operating in the nearby Terai region of Nepal, who are demanding a separate Madheshi State and are boycotting next week's crucial elections in Nepal.

The Madhesis dominate the Terai, a narrow strip of fertile plains considered to be impoverished Nepal's food basket and home to nearly half of its 26 million people.
