Kanpur, Apr 30 : A massive fire broke out at a cooling power plant of the Lal Imli Woollen mill in Kanpur causing massive loss of raw material and property.
Flames leapt from an area behind the mill, where residents had set dried grass and leaves on fire.
"The cooling plant of the mill caught fire. The flames spread from the burning dry grass and wood in the vicinity of the mill. Three fire brigade vehicles were called to extinguish the fire that has almost been brought under control," said Shakuntala Gautam, Additional District Magistrate.
Since the cooling plant of the mill has remained closed since the last one year, there were no labourers working.
Consequently, no casualties were reported.
Authorities at the mill claim that the entire power plant was gutted and the exact loss is yet to be ascertained.
Lal Imli Woollen mill is one of the oldest mills in Kanpur, which has been in operation since the last 129 years.
