A no-confidence motion moved by the Opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP) against the Congress Government was defeated in the Andhra Pradesh Assembly by a voice vote at around 2:00 a.m. this morning.

Hyderabad, Apr 3 : A no-confidence motion moved by the Opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP) against the Congress Government was defeated in the Andhra Pradesh Assembly by a voice vote at around 2:00 a.m. this morning.

The three-day acrimonious debate was marked by uproarious scenes and a hurling of allegations and counter-allegations, forcing Speaker K R Suresh Reddy to adjourn the state budget session.

Replying to the debate, Chief Minister Dr. Y S Rajasekhar Reddy refuted all allegations levelled against him and his cabinet colleagues by Leader of Opposition and TDP Chief N Chandrababu Naidu.

Describing his four-year long rule as enviable, Reddy countered by saying that his Government is thriving for thr all round development of Andhra Pradesh.

Stating that the State Government has taken up irrigation projects on a war footing, Naidu said farm loans have been waived and the government is now considering the waiving off of tenant farmer loans.

He also listed various welfare and development programmes implemented during the last four years.
