Bhopal, Apr 3 : A Muslim seminary organised an International Quran recitation competition 'Kirat-e-Quran' here recently to propagate the teachings of the holy book of Islam.
Aalim tajuna mustafa-e-quran-e- karim, a Muslim seminary, which organised the competition, said the competition was held to invoke faith amongst the Muslim community regarding the holy scripture.
"Quran propagates the message of humanity as said by Allah. Whenever such kind of events are organised, it is only to spread these teachings to every nook and corner of the world," said Mazhar Ali Faruqui, an organiser.
Along with Muslim scholars (Ulemas) from various countries, children also participated in the recitation competition.
Religious reciters known as 'qaris' from France, Bangladesh, Iran, Afghanistan, South Africa, Pakistan and Nepal besides India took part in the event. They described the competition as a great contribution in spreading the ideas of peace, harmony and brotherhood worldwide.
The Islamic scholars lamented that worldwide their community has been accused of terrorism and said that Islam has always preached the message of peace and harmony.
"Islam is a very peaceful religion. I have brought the message of peace for my Muslim brothers in India from Pakistan. If such type of competitions continue, then with god's grace, the petty animosities and enmity would diminish," said Khalid Usman Almi, a contestant from Pakistan.
Some of the participants appreciated the importance being given to the holy scripture.
"I am really happy to see this gathering and the amount of importance they put on Quran," said Mohammad Zakaria, a contestant from South Africa.
The participants hoped that with more such competitions, the faith and love among people of various faiths would revive. By R C Sahu
