The Government has decided to involve the civil defence volunteers in disaster management in addition to their traditional roles.
New Delhi, Apr 29 : The Government has decided to involve the civil defence volunteers in disaster management in addition to their traditional roles.
Minister of State in the Ministry of Home Affairs Radhika V. Selvi in a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha today said, "The Government has issued necessary instructions to the State Governments/UT-Administrations that the services of civil defence volunteers can be utilised by the State Government in tackling the disaster crises also."
Selvi said that a committee under member, national disaster management authority was set up to suggest measures to involve civil defence in disaster management.
"The Report of the Committee was shared with the State Governments, who have agreed with the key recommendation of involving civil defence volunteers in disaster management," Selvi added.
Based on the recommendations of the K.M. Singh Committee Report, Selvi further added that a scheme for involving civil defence volunteers has been drawn up for implementation during the Eleventh Plan commencing implementation from 2008-09.
