Indian Geospatial Industry Survey 2008
The Indian geospatial industry is in its adolescent stage - not mature yet but full of immense potential and showing great promise. After several unsuccessful attempts in the past to understand and assess the geospatial industry by NGOs, media, government bodies and academic institutions, Geospatial Today has launched the Indian Geospatial Industry Survey. To present the facts in a scientific and systematic way, Geospatial Today has tied up with IMRB, a market research company to carry out The Geospatial Industry Survey 2008.
The Survey is an attempt to gauge the health of the geospatial industry in India. It identifies the basic components of geospatial industry - data, software, hardware and services, analyses the worth of each segment and projects the growth in each. The survey pegs the worth of overall geospatial market in India at Rs 6830 million in 2006-07. The services segment alone contributed 51%, followed by hardware at 27%, software at 14% and data sales at 7.5%. While the services sector is projected to grow at a CAGR of 20% up to 2011-12, data is anticipated to grow at a CAGR of 30%, software at 20% and hardware at 19%, for the same period.
Geospatial technology finds utility in every aspect of life and development process - be it urban planning, defence, natural resources, utilities (gas, power and telecom), transportation and logistics, infrastructure (railways, roads and buildings, civil aviation etc). The Indian Geospatial Industry Survey 2008 analyses the growth aspects of each of these verticals and makes authentic projections. The report also incorporates the suggestions by various respondents that include reforms in the existing government policies, removal of restrictions on conduct of aerial surveys and accessibility to high resolution satellite imageries.
Indian Geospatial Awards 2008
Past two decades has seen a significant growth in geospatial arena - be it technology, application or industry. This growth could mainly be attributed to the persistent efforts of government officials, researchers and entrepreneurs, who believed in the potential of the technology and contributed their best. But rarely have they been acknowledged for their services. Geospatial Round Table
GIS has come of age. While all the technology is readily available, the initiative to put these technological marvels into application and utilise the same for developmental purposes is still at a nascent stage. To create public awareness about the significance and the potential of geospatial technology, Geospatial Today along with CNBC TV 18 has initiated Geospatial Roundtable. The programme brings industry leaders and decision makers in the government on to one platform to explore the opportunities and discuss the growth potential and challenges in the Indian geospatial industry.
