Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Sriprakash Jaiswal told the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday that over 70 male Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) activists have been arrested during the last one year

New Delhi, Apr 23 : Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Sriprakash Jaiswal told the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday that over 70 male Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) activists have been arrested during the last one year

"Over 70 male SIMI activists have been arrested during the last one year as per reports from Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, NCT of Delhi and Karnataka. No foreign national is among those arrested," Jaiswal told Rajya Sabha in a written reply.

He also pointed out that despite the ban, the SIMI has been carrying out its activities clandestinely including holding of organizational meetings, circulation of literature, etc.

Unlawful activities of SIMI have come to notice in Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh, the minister said in reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha.
