Sonia to campaign for West Bengal Panchayat polls

External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee on Monday convened a Congress party meeting here to finalise Party President Sonia Gandhis visit to West Bengal on April 28 to give pace to the party campaign for the upcoming panchayat elections there.

New Delhi, Apr 21 : External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee on Monday convened a Congress party meeting here to finalise Party President Sonia Gandhi's visit to West Bengal on April 28 to give pace to the party campaign for the upcoming panchayat elections there.

West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee (WBPCC) chief P R Dasmunsi and others also attended the meeting.

She is expected to visit Malda and Murshidabad Districts during her day-long visit as Congress holds a Zila Parishad seat there.

As Lok Sabha elections are scheduled for next year that makes Panchayat elections more crucial in the Left-ruled State where the Marxists dominate most of the Zila Parishads and Panchayats.

According to sources, Sonia is expected to visit the family of former Congress leader A B A Ghani Khan Choudhary.
