First squadron of the Indian Air Force celebrates its Platinum Jubilee

The first squadron of the Indian Air Force (IAF), Tigers, celebrated its 75th anniversary with a spectacular aerobatics show here on Tuesday.

Gwalior, Apr 2 : The first squadron of the Indian Air Force (IAF), 'Tigers', celebrated its 75th anniversary with a spectacular aerobatics show here on Tuesday.

From the propeller driven planes in the thirties and forties to the latest state-of-the-art Mirage 2000s, it's been 75 years of glorious flying for the Tigers.

Coinciding with the Platinum Jubilee of the IAF, about a dozen fighter planes of the Tigers squadron performed daredevil aerobatics. Parachuters also enthralled the audience.

"When the aerobatics displayed here are performed during war, it helps pilots to nab enemy. When fighter planes engage in dogfight, it's akin to two knights charging at each other. Such aerobatics display the confidence that the pilot has in his plane, enabling him to perform several daredevil stunts with the machine," said H.A Rathore, the commanding officer of the squadron.

A book written on the squadron and a postage stamp of the Platinum Jubilee were released on the occasion.
