Police have arrested two US nationals with ammunition from Bagdogra in West Bengal on Tuesday.

Bagdogra (West Bengal), Apr 16 : Police have arrested two US nationals with ammunition from Bagdogra in West Bengal on Tuesday.

The security personnel at the airport recovered a pistol magazine and 11 cartridges from the residents of Santa Barbara in California as they were trying to board a flight.

The accused, identified as Monica Bond and her daughter Heather K. Bond were going to New Delhi when security personnel caught them.

"At the time of checking-in, two American ladies were detected with some cartridges in one pocket of one of their rucksacks. There were 11 cartridges and one magazine of a pistol. It was detected by the security-in-charge of Deccan Airlines. They handed over these persons to us," said Biswajeet Das, police inspector at Bagdogra.

Monica, a former nurse and Heather an employee of California's Forest and Fire Protection Department, failed to produce any documents to prove their innocence.

Meanwhile, the police have informed the US embassy and an investigation was on.
