Snake meat, a popular delicacy among tribals in Tamil Nadu

Snake meat is a popular delicacy among the tribals at Pennagaram in Tamil Nadus Dharmapuri District.

Pennagaram (Tamil Nadu), Apr 12 : Snake meat is a popular delicacy among the tribals at Pennagaram in Tamil Nadu's Dharmapuri District.

The snakes are drawn out of the holes in the deep forests with the help of long sticks. Then they remove the snake pelt with the help of blades and cook the meat.

The tribals take to snake hunting at a very early age and are confident of hunting even poisonous snakes like cobra.

"Snake is a very tasty edible. There are three varieties of snakes, black rat snake, blue rat snake and yellow rat snake. Yellow snakes run faster," said Paramsivam, a tribal.

The tribals claim that snake meat has curative properties, as it is a pain reliever and also cures ailments like cough and joint pain. By Jai Kumar
