At least eight Naxalites were killed in an encounter with Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel in Jharkhands Garwah District late on Monday night.
Ranchi, Apr 1 : At least eight Naxalites were killed in an encounter with Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel in Jharkhand's Garwah District late on Monday night.
According to reports from the CRPF headquarters, the Naxalites were killed in an encounter with the 13th battalion of the CRPF.
A huge quantity of arms and ammunition, including 20 quintals of gelatine explosive, was also recovered from them.
In 2007, 478 Naxal-related incidents were reported in which 175 civilians were killed. On 14 occasions, trains were targeted in Jharkhand.
Naxals also engaged 60 encounters with the police and the CRPF last year.
Till February this year, 58 incidents were reported, 15 encounters conducted and 19 extremists killed.
The forces were successful in preventing any attack on trains. In all, 14 civilians have been killed in naxal attacks in the past two months.
