Patna, Apr 1 : Over 80,000 lawyers in Bihar struck work for a second consecutive day on Tuesday to protest against the steep hike in court fees by the state government.
The three-day strike began Monday, affecting the functioning in all courts including the Patna High court across the state.
The strike was called by co-ordination committee of the three associations of the Patna High Court and District Bar Associations.
Coordination committee convener Yogesh Chandra Verma said it would meet on Wednesday to decide the future course of action.
Industry Minister Gautam Singh told the State Assembly on Monday that the government would not roll back the hike.
According to the new fee structure, the charge for filing a public interest petition (PIL) in the high court would go up to Rs.1, 000. Earlier it depended on the nature of the case.
The rate for procuring copies of judgements and other proceedings in the court has also been raised from Re.1 to Rs.10 per page.
