Punjab Vigilance Bureau here today arrested former Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) S S Virk in connection with a disproportionate assets case.
New Delhi, Sept 9 : Punjab Vigilance Bureau here today arrested former Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) S S Virk in connection with a disproportionate assets case.
A case is registered against Virk, a Maharashtra cadre IPS officer, for allegedly possessing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.
He was arrested from Maharashtra Sadan, officials said.
Virk, who was removed as DGP shortly before Punjab Assembly elections earlier this year, has been charged with having misused his authority by indulging in private business being a public servant in violation of service rules, including running a resort and a real estate project.
The case was registered against Virk on Saturday under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
Investigations were on in the case for the last few months, sources said.
Virk will be produced before a court in Kharar in Punjab late today, sources said.
The vigilance team comprised of Superintendents of Police (SP) Surinderpal Singh, Balkar Singh (from Chandigarh), Shiv Kumar (Patiala) and Surjit Pal Singh (Ludhiana), besides other officers.
Surinderpal Singh is also the investigating officer in the disproportionate assets case against Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and his family members.
