Irans Deputy Foreign Minister, Mahdi Safari, on Friday met External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee as talks on the Iran-Pakistan-India gas pipeline entered the final stages.
New Delhi, Sept 7 : Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister, Mahdi Safari, on Friday met External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee as talks on the Iran-Pakistan-India gas pipeline entered the final stages.
Safari, who visited Islamabad before reaching New Delhi, also met Foreign Secretary Shiv Shankar Menon.
The pipeline project, which aims to feed the growing energy needs of the subcontinent, has made slow progress due to political tensions between India and Pakistan and differences between New Delhi and Tehran over the latter's controversial nuclear programme.
Apart from the talks on gas pipeline, Iran's controversial nuclear programme was also reportedly high on the agenda.
