Newcomer designers jumping into the fray of Indian fashion displayed over-the-top innovation at the Fashion Week on Friday as Day three of the ongoing fashion week was given to budding designers like Abhijeet Khanna and Prashant Verma, who showcased their wacky creations with aplomb.

New Delhi, Sept 7 : Newcomer designers jumping into the fray of Indian fashion displayed over-the-top innovation at the Fashion Week on Friday as Day three of the ongoing fashion week was given to budding designers like Abhijeet Khanna and Prashant Verma, who showcased their wacky creations with aplomb.

Their designs displayed an avant-garde outlook to fashion, teaming bright colours with unusual fabrics to make a bold statement on the ramp.

Khanna's collection was eclectic and employed techniques like hand-embroideries and block prints on silhouettes in a colourful palette.

Meanwhile, Prashant Verma used digital prints, diamond encrusted flowers across georgette and satin gowns, taffeta evening columns and dresses in self-portrait prints to showcase a formal collection.

Other designers like Elisha W and Gauri Bajoria also showed their designs, both providing a balanced and wearable mix of Indian and western wear to fashionistas.

India's greatest fashion fiesta, the Wills India Fashion Week, got off to a rollicking start in the national capital on Wednesday with the country's most glamorous men and women descending New Delhi to catch a glimpse of the latest trends.

Over 80 international buyers from 19 countries and 100 domestic buyers are taking part at the Fashion Week this year, also boasting a participation of 71 designers.

Two decades ago, haute couture was a word that barely existed in the Indian vocabulary and fashion stopped at ethnic homespun cotton outfits made by neighbourhood tailors.

Today the fashion design industry is worth 1.8 billion dollars, growing at 20-30 percent in the 35 billion dollars global fashion market.
