Jabalpur, Sept 6 : At least 11 people were killed and 24 others were injured in a stampede at the ashram of a saint in a village, Bharra, near Jabalpur.

The stampede began after a large gathering, which had accumulated here to have a 'darshan' of the saint, Sarota Baba, started running amok to take shelter from a heavy downpour.

Following heavy rains a stampede broke out at the ashram of Sarota Baba also know as Ishwaridas, while he was holding a camp, a police official said.

Some persons are feared drowned after falling into the Bharra rivulet, which flows alongside where the camp was held.

Among those killed are five women, police said.

The local Baba claims to have herbal and spiritual cure for diseases, and his camps attracts hundreds of people in the region.

Condition of three of the injured was stated to be critical, police said.
